Greater Brisbane Centenary

2025 represents a major milestone in the history of Brisbane City Council. October 1925 marks 100 years since the City of Brisbane Act 1924 came into force creating the largest municipality in the Southern hemisphere via the amalgamation twenty former local authorities. This year also marks the last terms of the previous local authorities whose final elections together with the first Greater Brisbane Council were held in February 1925. William Jolly was elected the first Mayor of the new Council and F.W. Annand, the first Town Clerk was appointed in July 1925.
